This book is by far one of the best books I have ever seen on JavaScript applications.

Unlike other programming "cookbooks", this one does not present a collection of common techniques in a reference style (like the outstanding "Perl Cookbook" by Tom Christiansen and Nathan Torkington).

The approach here is to take the cookbook concept literally, presenting ten recipes that can be used for creating complete applications. The recipes vary a lot and include: a client-side search engine, an online test, an interactive slideshow, an interface for using multiple search engines, an engine for generating image rollover code, an application for recalling user preferences using cookies, a shopping cart (very used nowadays), a simple substitution cipher, a greeting card generator, and context sensitive help. Also included is a chapter on JavaScript source files (with number of helpful utilities), very useful if you want to reuse your code.

Three appendices are included: Appendix A contains a brief but quite complete language reference; Appendix B contains a number of interesting web sites related to JavaScript and the applications; the last appendix provides an introduction to Perl Scripts. The source code is available from the O'Reilly web site, so you don't have to type it in.

Bottom line: recommend this book to anyone who wants to enhance their JavaScript.
