Create and control Unix daemon processes

This package provides a base class that can create and manage daemon processes on Linux or other Unix-like systems.

This base class can fork the current process and store the child process identifier in a pid file. The forked process enters an infinite loop executing its job until it receives a termination signal.

The base class is not useful by itself. It needs to be derived to implement daemon job as a function of the sub-class. A daemon job subclass is provided as an example.

Create and manage daemon processes on Unix systems

This class is intended to automate the creation of system daemons proceses under Unix like operating systems or those with POSIX compliant API like Linux, OpenBSD, FreeBSD, Solaris, Mac OS X, etc...

It can fork a new process using the PHP pcntl extension and detach from the starting shell so it can exit without killing the daemon process.

It can maintain a file that stores the daemon process identifier to prevent that more than one copy of the daemon is started.

It also creates a log file to register the daemon activity.

It is also possible register PHP callback functions to handle different types of signals.

Database driven PHP job scheduler like cron

This package can be used to schedule the execution of task like the cron program.

First it starts a daemon process using Luca Mariano's PHP fork class to make the cron daemon script run like a standalone program.

It can parse a crontab file with Mick Sear's cron parser class and extract the job scheduling definitions into a MySQL database table.

When it is time to run a scheduled job, it executes the job command in the crontab definition as PHP code as a separate process.

The output of the job PHP code is also stored in a database table.
