What Microsoft is doing now with PHP is the same they always done for decades with developers that build applications to run on Windows. They give the tools, training and promote professionals so make living from working with Microsoft products.

The only differences are that PHP is not a language created by Microsoft and PHP does not run just on Windows.

It is explained in the article. You get Microsoft software, get training and get exposure so you can work for Microsoft customers or sell the PHP software that you develop for those customers.

Microsoft will help you to make that happen much easier than if you had to market yourself or your products all by yourself.

Yes thats exactly it is trying to do, to work on their platform and increase their sales in turn.

You can market a *NIX platform for PHP better than MS

Bribery is a hard stuff.

Bribery is actually a crime.

They are not forcing you to stick with Windows for any time.

In fact, they are enabling more users to evaluate better their architecture and do the comparison here and there.

Bribery was really hard man, perhaps expanding possibilities would be the right wording.
